William Vareski,84

William John Vareski, 84, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday November 28th, 2022. He was born in North Adams, MA on November 1st, 1938, a son of the late William Joseph Vareski and Gertrude (King) Vareski.

Bill was raised in North Adams and graduated from Saint Joseph High School. He then attended and graduated from St Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Soon after, Bill married Nan M Petri on October 20, 1962. He began his professional career when he was hired by the Sprague Electric Co, in his hometown of North Adams, directly after graduation. He spent his entire illustrious 41-year career with the company. He began his tenure at Sprague working in the procurement department. He soon moved on to the export division and rose through the ranks. He traveled extensively, mostly internationally, through the 1980’s and 90’s.

The first half of his career was spent based in North Adams. However, in 1985, Sprague was sold to a large parent company and the local headquarters was closed. Bill and his wife Nan then spent the next 18 years moving to various locations along the east coast, working for Sprague. They thoroughly enjoyed their adventures in Cumberland, RI, York, ME and Mooresville, NC. Upon retirement in 2003, Bill and Nan split time between their homes in Kennebunk, ME and Ft Meyers, FL. They also travelled around the world to many of the places Bill got to experience during his career.

Bill enjoyed anything to do with sports and was an avid fan of all the Boston sports teams. He liked to golf and in his younger years, loved to bowl. He was a member of a bowling team in North Adams called the High Rollers. It started out as just a bowling team but turned into a lifelong fraternity of his best friends. They enjoyed many years of fishing and golf trips to Vermont and a day would not go by where he would not talk to one of the gang.

His true passion was spending time with his small but beloved family. His wife Nan, who passed away in 2020, his son Bill, his daughter-in-law Rebecca and his grandchildren Tyler and Nicole. He spent the enjoyable last few years of his life living with his son’s family in Kensington NH, close to the ones he loved the most. He was so proud of Tyler and Nicole.

He leaves his son, William James Vareski and his wife Rebecca of Kensington, NH, as well as his two grandchildren Tyler Vareski of Somersworth, NH and Nicole Vareski of Kensington. He also leaves his niece Laurie Ricci of Pawleys Island, SC; brother-in-law James Petri of North Adams, MA; brother-in-law John Petri of Pompano Beach, FL and sister-in-law Dianne Petri of Lenox, MA. He was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn Truchero in 1984.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service for Bill will be held a later date in North Adams, MA to be announced by the family. Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home-CENTRAL CHAPEL-74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA 01247 is entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mount Carmel Care Center, 320 Pittsfield Rd Lenox MA 01240 where his sister-in-law Dianne currently resides. Billy was one of a great gang of guys who grew up together, did it in the best of times and enjoyed every minute of it. Seems like St Joes had a disproportionate number of good guys and Billy was one of them.
