Annette Urbanek

Annette Ruby Urbanek, 98, formerly of 27 Second St., died Tuesday at Sweet Brook Care Center in Williamstown, where she had resided since Aug. 11, 2000. Born in Adams on Nov. 29, 1903, daughter of Joseph and Barbara Wojcik Kmiec, she attended schools in Adams and Savoy. She graduated from the former Bliss Business College in North Adams. Mrs. Urbanek was employed as a seamstress for many years at the former A.L. Pociask Clothing Store, retiring in 1965. She was a first-aid instructor for the American Red Cross for many years and had taught classes at C.H. McCann Technical High School and at other organizations. She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and a member of its Rosary Sodality. She also was a member and past president of the former Polish Women's Club. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, needlework and baking. Her husband, Casimere A. Urbanek, whom she married July 21, 1930, died Sept. 1, 1999. She leaves three daughters, Barbara Emmanuel and Mary Stumpek, both of San Antonio, Texas, and Roberta Kirchner of Adams; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Stacia Ramocki, and a brother, Albert Kmiec. The funeral will be held Saturday morning at 9:15 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. John C. Chwalek, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Adams Ambulance Service or to the Berkshire County Chapter of the American Red Cross through the funeral home.
