Rosemarie Oliveira

Rosemarie E. Oliveira, 63, of Old Stockbridge Road died Tuesday at the Village at Laurel Lake. Born in Bronx, N.Y., on May 11, 1938, daughter of Anthony and Rose Esposito DeFrancesco, she attended schools in New York City. She earned her bachelor of arts degree from Mount St. Vincent College and then started working on her Ph.D. at the University of Massachusetts. She moved to the Berkshires in 1963. Mrs. Oliveira owned and managed three Kentucky Fried Chicken franchises in Berkshire County. She was also employed as a social worker with Berkshire Medical Center. She volunteered with Hospice and was the creator of its "Ducky Derby" race, which is still an annual fund-raiser for Hospice. She was also on the board of Children's and Family Services in Pittsfield. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She leaves her husband, Ronald Oliveira, whom she married Aug. 1, 1981; a son, Anthony J. Barnaba of Great Barrington; three daughters, Lisa M. Perret of Fairfield, Conn., Pier A. Talbot of Medford and Gina M. Ledger of Lincoln; a brother, Vincent DeFrancesco of Yorkville, N.Y., and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday at 9:15 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Lee. Burial will follow in Stockbridge Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday evening from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Friends wishing may make donations to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the Kelly Funeral Home.
