Barbara Hirschl

Barbara M. Hirschl, 85, of 5 Deer Hill Road died Tuesday at Sweetbrook Nursing Home in Williamstown. Born in New York City on Feb. 21, 1916, daughter of Samuel J. and Mildred Gold Broad, she attended the University of Michigan and Columbia University. Mrs. Hirschl founded The Touchstone Gallery in New York City in 1974. She and her husband of 63 years, Norman Hirschl, whom she married Oct. 16, 1938, had resided in West Stockbridge for the past 40 years. She was an active member of the cultural community and served on the boards of the Berkshire Theatre Festival and the Friends of the Lenox Library. Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Elaine Ellis of New York City; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Roger N. Hirschl. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Temple Anshe Amunim, 26 Broad St., Pittsfield, with Rabbi David Small officiating. Burial will follow in West Stockbridge at Village Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. at 5 Deer Hill Road, West Stockbridge.
