James and Gloria Floriani

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Heaven gained two angels. Gloria A. (Ferris) Floriani passed away within three months of losing her beloved husband of 53 years, James (Jamie) A. Floriani. Both died peacefully surrounded by family after a brief illness, Jamie on Sept. 17, 2023 and Gloria on Dec. 23, 2023.

Jamie was born to Agnes I. (Kearns) Floriani and Louis E. Floriani on April 16, 1947.  He leaves behind his oldest brother Louis E. Floriani Jr. and sister-in-law Diane of North Adams. He also leaves behind his older sister Carole Ann Blair and his brother-in-law Raymond J. Blair also of North Adams.  In addition, he leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gloria was born to Elizabeth M. (Solomon) Ferris and Ferris M. Ferris on January 5, 1949.  She was predeceased by her older sister Martha (Ferris) Perry and her husband Lauren "Butch" Perry of Priest River, Idaho. Gloria leaves behind her older brother Marshall Ferris of Lakeville, Minnesota, older sister Faith (Ferris) Barcome and her husband John Barcome of Wilbraham, and younger sister Anne (Ferris) Molloy and her husband William "Bill" Molloy of North Adams. In addition, she leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jamie proudly graduated from Drury High School and attended Berkshire Community College. He worked at Sprague Electric Co. for 30 years until the company moved from North Adams. He then decided his second career would be helping others.

Gloria graduated from St. Joseph's High School and attended Mildred Elley Business School. She first worked at Aiken Chemical until they closed.  She was then employed by General Cable for many years until the company moved from Berkshires. She went on to work for McClelland's Hallmark, Patten Realty, and finally finished her career in medical billing before she retired.

The couple, lived in North Adams until a recent move to Williamstown.  Jamie and Gloria were amazing parents and grandparents. They loved their children and grandchildren very much. Gloria was unique and funny, she was strong-willed, and a bit stubborn, however, always stayed true to herself and her beliefs. Jamie was kind and genuine, he was profoundly religious, and showed compassion and empathy. Together they complimented each other and made the perfect couple. Their hospitality reached an array of folks and most likely included homemade pizza. They were always together, so it was no surprise they passed so close to one another. Their bond was unbreakable.

They are survived by their daughter, Tara Floriani and her husband, Dana Quartey of Worcester, and his son Andrew "AJ" Floriani and his wife Shellie who live in Coventry, Vermont. Jamie and Gloria had seven grandchildren, Desmond, Damori, Corrinne, Cole, Eli, Emilia, and Enzo.

There will be visitation held for both from 9a – 10a at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams, Massachusetts followed by a funeral Mass on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Immediately following the Mass, a Celebration of Life will be announced at the church. All are welcome to attend.  In lieu of flowers, please donate in Jamie and Gloria's memory to PopCares, PO Box 482, Williamstown, MA  01267.

There are people in your lives that just become family...and Jamie and Gloria over 40 years are part of mine. When my dad died 30 years ago..it was Jamie and Gloria that were always calling me, checking on me, I would stop by and check on them. Jamie never missed a house renovation I did..always coming to see the work being done. We shared lots of good times on 44 Cady Street...they will be missed.

My sincere condolences to the family of Gloria and Jamie. I knew Gloria and Jamie best from the time I worked with Gloria at General Cable from around 1981-1984. I also worked at Sprague from 1977-1981 and I know Jamie worked with some of my relatives, and half of North Adams no doubt. I smiled when I read the obit, especially the part that described their personalities. Thank you for sharing some of their life stories with us. Rest in peace you two.

To Jamie and Gloria’s family, Unfortunately when I met this extraordinary couple they were both having medical issues and I visited them weekly to fill their medications. They were so welcoming and friendly. Always kind and lighthearted. It was my pleasure to have met them. May they rest in peace. With sincere gratitude for having spent time with them.

They cherished their children always talking of there accomplishments and how proud they were of them. May they continue their love story in heaven. God rest their souls.

I met James when I attended Drury High School. He was always very kind and lent an ear on those bad/good days. He would tell me stories on how he helped other students and still to this day I remember them all. His kindness and compassion for everyone that had the pleasure of meeting him will live on. Miss you . Thank you for those little life lessons

Jamie and Gloria will be missed by the Hassenpflug family. My brother Bill was closest in age to Jamie and unfortunately is not in good enough shape to attend; he has expressed his sorrow. Personally we will always remember his humility and good humor
