Richard J. Groves

Richard J. Groves, 72, of 16 Overlook Terrace died yesterday at Williamstown Commons Health Care Center, where he had been a resident since December. Born in Adams on April 26, 1929, son of Robert and Corrine Lawler Groves, he attended Adams schools and graduated from the former Adams High School in 1948. He attended the Massachusetts Military Academy in 1955. He was a member of the 104 Infantry Division of the National Guard in Adams for 21 years and was discharged as a first lieutenant. Mr. Groves was employed by the former L.L. Brown Paper Co. for a short time and then by General Electric Co. as a draftsman and designer in the transformer department for 40 years, retiring in 1989. He was a life member of the Adams Turners and a member of the Adams Lodge of Elks and the General Electric Athletic Association. He enjoyed playing golf. He leaves his wife, the former Grace LaDue, whom he married June 25, 1955; three sons, Richard E. Groves of Lancaster, Calif., Michael A. Groves of Cool, Calif., and Robert C. Groves of North Adams; a daughter, Lisa Brandon of Adams; a sister, Beverly Ebrite of Passchristian, Miss., and six grandchildren. Services will take place Thursday, Feb. 21, at 3 p.m. from TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME in Adams, with the Rev. Robert R. Moulton, permanent deacon of the Parish of Notre Dame Des Sept Douleurs and St. Thomas Aquinas in Adams, officiating. Burial will take place Saturday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
