Anne M. Ruane

Anne M. Ruane, 95, of 15 Sumner St. died Tuesday at home. Born in Great Barrington on May 11, 1906, daughter of Thomas and Bridget Gibbons Ruane, she was a 1924 graduate of the former Searles High School. She also graduated from Westfield Normal School, now Westfield State College, in 1926. Mrs. Ruane opened a private school at her home on Sumner Street until the Depression. In 1934, she became a schoolteacher for the Great Barrington Public Schools and taught at Bryant School until her retirement in 1974. She was a communicant of St. Peter's Church. She leaves several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ruane was predeceased by two brothers, John in 1979, and Edward in 2001, and four sisters, Alice in 1965, Mary in 1982, Katherine in 1983, and Helen in August 2001. Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 23, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family will receive family and friends Saturday, Feb. 23, from 9 to 10 a.m. at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Service or to Hospice Care in the Berkshires in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
