Jane R. Smith

Jane Raphel Smith, 89, formerly of Stockbridge, died Monday at St. Catherine Laboure Manor in Jacksonville, Fla. Born in Orange, N.J., on March 10, 1912, daughter of Edward and Jane Raphel, she graduated from Orange High School and from Miss Beard's Finishing School. She had resided in State College, Pa., for many years and in Stockbridge from 1962 until 1980. She was a church organist and piano and organ teacher in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and in the Berkshires. She was the organist at Lee Congregational Church and St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Stockbridge. Her husband, Stanley Smith, died in 1989. She leaves a son, Stanley Smith of Linden Hall, Pa.; a daughter, Sandra Clarke of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, and one great-grandson. A memorial service will be held in early March in State College, Pa. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Stockbridge or to any hospice organization.
