Mary Blanchette

Mary A. Blanchette, 90, of Springfield, formerly of Sandisfield, died Saturday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Winsted, Conn., on Dec. 23, 1911, daughter of Nattiriiska and Hilda Tukkio Riiska, she graduated from the former Searles High School in Great Barrington and from Baypath Business College. She lived briefly in Sandisfield and spent most of her life in Springfield. Mrs. Blanchette was a member of the Church in the Acres, Baptist, in Springfield. She enjoyed baking, swimming and watching hockey games. Her first husband, Thomas Brown, is deceased. Her husband, Leonard Blanchette, is also deceased. She leaves several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by seven brothers, Elmer, Matti, Charles, Alfred, Oscar, William and Edward Riiska. The funeral will be tomorrow, Tuesday, at 8 p.m. at BYRON'S FUNERAL HOME, 1858 Allen St., Springfield. Burial will be in the spring at Center Cemetery in Colebrook, Conn. Family and friends are invited to visit at the funeral home tomorrow from 7 to 9. Memorial donations may be sent to Shriners' Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
