Anne Claire Nelson

CLARKSBURG, Mass. —

Anne Claire (Miller) Nelson, 93, of Clarksburg, MA, died peacefully, Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at home. She was born in North Adams on May 8, 1932, daughter of Clara (LaBombard) and Joseph Miller. Anne graduated from Drury High School in 1950 and MCLA (North Adams State College) in 1954.

Married to the love of her life, Arlon Edward “Al” Nelson at the Norwich, CT Baptist Church on May 14, 1966, the couple dedicated their lives to the church and community. Anne was a longtime educator in the public schools in the town of Florida and then in the North Adams Schools.

An 80 year member of the First Baptist Church of North Adams, Anne was passionate about the children, Camp Ashmere, and the music ministry at the church. Over the years, Anne owned several dogs that brought her great pleasure.

Anne was predeceased by her husband, Al. Several years after her husband passed, Anne adopted the Anderson Family; Dave, Jennifer and Abigail. They in turn adopted her and became her caregivers. Additional caregivers, Shirley Velotta, Lori Mills, Cindy Noel and Adam Quimby provided Anne with kindness and compassion. The community is grateful for their dedication.

Anne and Al were pillars of our community who will always be remembered but will never be replaced. I knew Al better than Anne but I know they're together again. Thoughts and prayers to those close to her at this most difficult time.

Anne was a gifted teacher who touched the lives of generations of students on Florida Mountain and North Adams. I was blessed to have her as my 6th grade teacher and my neighbor/ friend on McArthur Drive in Clarksburg for the past 42 years! Anne missed her husband, Al Nelson, very much since his untimely death. They are now back together again in heaven with their four dogs, watching over us all! Rest in peace precious Anne and Al ?
