Douglas Joseph Romano, 53, of 178 Barbour St. died Sunday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Adams on April 18, 1948, son of Joseph J. and Marie A. Simon Romano, he was a 1966 graduate of the former Adams High School. He also graduated from the Broward County (Fla.) Police Academy in 1978. Mr. Romano had been employed as a police officer in Broward County. He returned to Berkshire County several years ago, settling in North Adams. He enjoyed boxing and working out and was a fan of the New York Yankees and Giants, and the Boston Celtics. He and his wife, the former Helen Etman, were married Jan. 4. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Carla Romano of Pittsfield and Nicole Romano of North Adams; a brother, Alan Romano of North Adams, and a sister, Maureen Montague of Sunrise, Fla. The funeral will be Thursday at 8:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 7. Memorial donations are suggested for the Red Cross Sept. 11 Fund through the funeral home.
