John Charles LaVigne, 72

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — John Charles LaVigne of Winchester, formerly of North Adams and Medford, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, at the age of 72.

Born on April 24, 1954, in North Adams, Massachusetts, John was the beloved son of the late Fredrick and Rita (Cavey) LaVigne. After meeting the love of his life, Jane (Cannava) LaVigne, at a local coffee shop, he moved to Stoneham before settling in Medford, where together they raised their three daughters. In later years, John and Jane made their home in Winchester. John lived a life defined by family, hard work, and kindness. He spent many years working in grocery stores, where his genuine warmth and easy smile made him a familiar face to coworkers, customers, and friends alike. He never met a stranger for long, striking up conversations wherever he went and leaving people feeling just a little happier than when they arrived.

Nothing brought John more joy than spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and an adoring grandfather who treasured every moment with his grandchildren. He also had a special place in his heart for animals and loved the companionship of his many cats and dogs over the years. He also loved spending time with his grand-pups, always happy to offer them a scratch behind the ears or a treat.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Jane (Cannava) LaVigne; his loving daughters, Janelle, Juliette and Jessica; his cherished grandchildren, Paul, Bridget, Penelope, and Matilda; and his sister, Carol LaVigne Kane of Seattle, Washington.

He was predeceased by his parents, Fredrick and Rita LaVigne; his brother, Paul LaVigne; and his sister, Jean LaVigne.

John will be remembered for his gentle spirit, generous heart, and love for his family. He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, believed in treating everyone with kindness, and leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and love that will continue to live on in all who knew him.

Visiting hours will be held in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, MA, on Saturday, July 18th from 11AM-1:00PM, followed by a funeral service in the funeral home beginning at 1:00PM. Relatives and friends are invited.
