John H. Keating, 95

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —  

Mr. John H. Keating, 95, of North Adams, died on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born in North Adams on January 5, 1931, a son of the late Lloyd and Isabelle (Huguenard) Keating. He attended schools in North Adams and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1949.

Mr. Keating was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served with the United States Navy from 1949 aboard the Piper Cub and Flying Fish submarines until receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1953.

John worked for the former Massachusetts Electric Company for 41 years until his retirement. He had also owned and operated the former Johns RC and had worked for the former Sprague Electric Company, North Adams.

He was a communicant of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Trout Unlimited, the former Tunnel City Flying Club and was a life member of the United States Submarine Veterans. He was a longtime coach and president for the North Adams Little League and the started the North Adams Minor League.

His first wife, the former Shirley Haas, whom he married in 1951, died in 1958. His second wife, the former Barbara V. Prenguber, whom he married on May 7, 1960, died on September 14, 2019.

He is survived by his daughter, Dale Keating of North Adams; three sons, John H. Keating, Jr., of Zephyr Hills, FL; Paul Keating of Adams and William Keating and his significant other Kathleen Adamczyk of Lanesboro; four grandchildren, Kellie Keating, Brett Keating, Courtney Keating and her husband Britton and Stephanie Love and her husband Jeff; four great grandchildren, Levi, Jane, Luke and Charlotte and by many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his granddaughter Caitlin.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 18th at 10:00 A.M. in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Maple St., Adams.

Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. There are no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to Soldier On, 360 W Housatonic St, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
