Joan Haskins, 92

Joan (Southgate) Haskins, 92, originally from North Adams, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at Williamstown Commons, Williamstown, MA, where she had resided for the last 2 ½ years. She was born in North Adams on April 3, 1934, a daughter of the late Howard Southgate & Dorothy (Tyler)Betti (Southgate). Joan was a communicant of St. Francis Church and later St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams. She graduated from Drury High School and later from Bliss Business School in North Adams. Joan was a devoted wife and mother – family was everything to her. She loved hearing about each and every grandchild and great grandchild and was always looking for their latest photos and stories about them. Joan also loved her cat, Paddy and grand dogs! She had a quick wit even in her final days. She was a stay-at-home Mom with her children for many years, and then was employed at JC Penney in North Adams, Dr. John Martin, Ophthalmologist in North Adams, Marathon Jewelry Company in Attleboro, MA and later retired from Donovan and O’Connor in Adams where she worked as a legal secretary. Joan was a member of Catholic Daughters, Holy Rosary Society, and a long-time member of the Red Hat Society and was active with the Stamford, VT Senior Group, as well as the Clarksburg Senior Group. Until recent years, she was instrumental in organizing the Stamford Senior Craft Fairs.
She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth, whom she married on September 1, 1956. Joan is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Levesque and her husband Richard of Attleboro, MA, Colleen Bethoney and her husband Thomas of Stamford, Vt, 3 sons, Steven Haskins and his wife Julieannn of Williamstown, Thomas Haskins and his wife, Teri of Bennington, Vt and John Haskins and his wife, Becky of Cheshire. She also leaves 12 grandchildren, Christopher Levesque, Derek Levesque, Evan Levesque, Adam Bethoney, Janessa Harrington, Benjamin Bethoney, Jenay Haskins, Lauren Costello, Mollyann DeVoie, Jason Haskins, Jared Haskins and Daniel Haskins. Joan also had 17 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Belle Southgate, who died in infancy.
Calling Hours for Joan Haskins will take place on Friday July 17, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA. with a Funeral Service to follow at the funeral home at 1:00 PM. Burial will take place in the family plot in Southview Cemetery.
