ADAMS, Mass. —  George Ernest Berne, 82 of Adams, MA, died on Monday, August 3, 2026 at Williamstown Commons.

Born in Pittsfield, MA on June 4, 1944. George was the son of the late George L. Berne and Evelyn (Sykes) Berne Stockley.

George was a 1963 graduate from Pittsfield High School and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. In his early years, George was employed as a manager at the Pittsfield Adams Supermarket. Mentored by his Step father James (Russ) Stockley he turned to Carpentry and became foreman at many job sites all over Berkshire County including building the GE plastics house. Later in his career he was the grounds director for Ponterril YMCA as well as holding a few other positions within the community.

George was extremely talented and proud to have hands on built his home in Florida Massachusetts. He could figure anything out and was the hardest worker you would ever know. Most of his free time was spent uniquely customizing his cars and hot rods from the ground up. He also enjoyed fishing, science, science fiction and country music. Mostly George had a huge heart. He loved all animals and even raised a few wild ones that he rehabilitated. He loved socializing and seemed to know everyone in Berkshire County when you chatted with him.

George's wife Gloria (Rathbun) Berne died on March 16, 2022. They were married for 36 years.

George leaves behind his son, George J. Berne of Pittsfield Ma, his daughter, Michelle Berne of Las Vegas Nevada, 6 step children, including Shaun Keeler, Paul Keeler, Thomas Keeler, Elaine Cook, Gail Noummano and Mark Keeler as well as many-many grand and great-grand children, nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Laurie Berne and brothers James Berne and James Stockley.
