PITTSFIELD, Mass. —  Joseph James Kirvin, 70, of Pittsfield died on August 29, 2026 at Berkshire Medical Center. Joseph was born in Pittsfield, MA on August 29, 1956, a son of the late Dr. Robert Joseph & Madelin (May) Kirvin.

  Joseph attended schools in Pittsfield and graduated from Pittsfield High School with the Class of 1974. He went on to earn a master’s degree in Environmental Science from University of Massachusetts. Joseph was a decorated veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during Desert Storm and receiving a Bronze Star for his service.

  For many years, Joseph was employed as an Animal Control Officer with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. He was also dedicated to serving his community, volunteering his time to help people experiencing homelessness in Pittsfield.

  Joseph is survived by his two ex-wives, Jan Putnam Kirvin and Lisa Harris-Peabody and his girlfriend, Sylvie Dinnen. His daughters, Megan, Alivia, and Jolisa, and his grandson, Joseph, were all close to his heart. He is also survived by a sister and a brother and his sister-in-law, Ann Madden-Kirvin. His brother, John Kirvin, preceded him in death in 2016.
