Shirley J. Emerson, 82

CHESHIRE, Mass. — Mrs. Shirley Joan (Bishop) Emerson, 82, of Cheshire, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 5, 2026 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, with her loved ones at her side. She was born in Adams on March 7, 1944, daughter of the late Carl and Grace (Romkey) Bishop. She attended local schools and graduated from the former Adams Memorial High School with the Class of 1962.

She worked several jobs as a secretary, at General Electric Co., Elder Services at the Cheshire Senior Center, dental offices, and lastly for a chiropractor office, until retiring at the age of 65. She was an avid baker and enjoyed crafts. In her spare time, she enjoyed scenic rides with her husband and taking her grandchildren on adventures to the mall. She was a kind soul loved by all.

She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Robert A. Emerson, whom she married on November 3, 1962 at the Cheshire Methodist Church. She is survived by her son, Terry Emerson and his wife, Gina, of Cheshire; her daughters, Robbin Emerson and her long-time companion, Jeffrey Coty, of Pittsfield, Holly Emerson Rufo and her husband Anthony Rufo of Riverview, FL; two grandchildren, Bryce Coty and Sofia Emerson; her sister, Marion Conlon of Williamstown; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was also predeceased by her brother, Carl F. Bishop.

At the request of Shirley and her family, there are no calling hours and services are private. Memorial donations may be made to the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Dept., PO Box 598, Cheshire, MA 01225.
