Frederick Bozek, 81

CHESHIRE, Mass. —

On November 1, 2026, a truly good man, Fred Bozek, left Berkshire Medical Center and is now in his heaven hunting rabbits with his beloved beagles. He was born in Adams on December 6, 1944, the first child of Antoni and Gladys Bury Bozek. His younger brother Frank became his best friend, especially in later years. He spent his childhood in Adams and went to St. Stanislaus Kostka and Adams Memorial High School where he graduated in 1962. As a child he convinced his parents that he would rather play baseball than play the accordion. He enjoyed all sports, especially basketball.

Fred graduated from North Adams State College in 1966. A year after graduating he accepted the position of Teaching Principal at Gabriel Abbott Memorial School on Florida Mountain and earned his Master’s Degree while employed there. He remained at the school for 34 years until his retirement in June, 2003. Known as Mr. B, he taught lessons using anecdotes from his life especially his four beagles. He enjoyed his time there, encouraging and inspiring the lives of many students.

As an expression of his love and kindness, he cooked for family, friends and even acquaintances.

Over the years, he loved hunting, fishing and mushrooming with his family and many friends, including spending time at his hunting camp in Pownal. He and his wife Margaret spent many afternoons running the dogs in preparation for rabbit season. Much of that time was spent trying to get the dogs out of the woods and back home.

He instilled the love of the outdoors in all of his four children: Brian remembers his Dad measuring the time of year according to whichever hunting season it was or by the bounty the forest had to offer. Beth and Fred could always find fun in their time together, especially their tradition of hunting for the elusive Easter Bunny. Douglas was his main lifelong deer hunting sidekick and recalled that there was no one he would rather ride shotgun with than his Dad. Amy loved fishing the streams and Duke’s Pond with her Dad where he taught her how to fish, occasionally stepping in to help with a tangled line or a fish that needed to be released.

Most of all Fred loved his wife, Margaret Thompson Bozek, his children, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren, and his friends. He wrote, “Hey, it was a hell of a journey and I was blessed to have all of you guys with me along the way.”

In keeping with Fred’s wishes, there will be no wake or formal services. He wrote, “If you are looking for me, I’ll be flitting around in the woods. Do not sit around grieving. Go have fun, I will be with you.”

In lieu of flowers, if one wishes, donations in Fred’s memory may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute through the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, which is in charge of arrangements. To leave a message of condolence, please go online to www.paciorekfuneral.com.
