Geraldine McBride

Geraldine Claire McBride, 93, of 4 Liberty St. died Wednesday evening at Sweet Brook Care Center in Williamstown, where she had resided since 1991. Born in North Adams on Oct. 19, 1908, daughter of Arthur G. and Elizabeth Buckley Witt, she attended the former St. Joseph's Grammar School and graduated from Drury High School in 1924. She also graduated from the former St. Luke's School of Nursing in Pittsfield in 1927 and became a registered nurse in Massachusetts in August 1928. Mrs. McBride was employed by the former St. Luke's Hospital before becoming a private-duty nurse in Berkshire County. From 1965 to 1975, she was employed by the former Visiting Nurses Association, now VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire. In 1979, she accepted a position on the medical staff at Green Mountain Race Track in Pownal, Vt., from which she retired in 1981 because of illness. Her husband, Frank Bowe McBride, owner and manager of McBride Funeral Home, whom she married Oct. 29, 1931, in St. Francis' Church in North Adams, died April 22, 1986. She leaves a daughter, Barbara Freitag of Sylvania, Ga.; four sons, former state Rep. Anthony P. McBride of Adams, Neal F. McBride of Springfield, Va., Timothy P. McBride of Calawaxie, Ga., and Richard M. "Mickey" McBride of Valencia, Spain; a sister, Isabelle W. Macksey of North Adams; 16 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday, March 25, at 9:15 from MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Liberty St., Adams, with a prayer service. A Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated for her life will follow at 10 in St. Thomas' Church, Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 4 to 7. The family suggests memorial donations to the Louison House at 395 Old Columbia St., Adams, MA 01220, or to the charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.
