Norma V. Pierpan

Norma Victoria Pierpan, 94, of 1115 State Road died Tuesday at Sweetbrook Care Center in Williamstown, where she was admitted March 22 following a brief illness. Born in North Adams on Aug. 7, 1907, daughter of Elia and Maria Averini Tadiello, she was a 1925 graduate of Drury High School. She also graduated from the former North Adams Normal School in 1927. She began her teaching career in a one-room school in South Cambridge, N.Y., in 1927. In 1929, she returned to North Adams and taught junior high classes in the former Freeman School until her marriage in 1936. She returned to teaching in 1954 at Johnson School, retiring in 1965. A communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Mrs. Pierpan was a charter member and past president of its Rosary Society. She also taught CCD classes for fifth-grade and high school students. She also served as den mother for Pack 60 of the Boy Scouts. She was a member of the North Adams Lodge 704 of Sons of Italy, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the Berkshire County Retired Teachers Association and the National Retired Teachers Association. A member of the former North Adams Grange on Notch Road, she served in several of its offices. She leaves her husband of 65 years, Harry Joseph Pierpan, whom she married July 11, 1936; three sons, Henry Joseph Pierpan of Williamstown, retired Marine Corps Col. Herbert Elias Pierpan of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Thomas Edward Pierpan of Largo, Fla.; a sister, Metilde Tadiello Kassner of North Adams; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Predeceased by siblings Mary Pickwell, Candida Day, Alyce Roy, Naemi Heisler, Eliseo Tadiello, Constantino Tadiello and Edward Tadiello. Services will take place Monday, April 1, at 9:30 from the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapel, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Patrick's Church, Southworth Street, Williamstown. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday, March 31, from 4 to 7. Memorial donations are suggested for St. Anthony Building Fund through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams.
