Sylvia C. Sheehan

Sylvia Carmen Sheehan, 93, of 212 Eagle St. died Sunday at the Glenn Falls (N.Y.) Hospital. Born in North Adams on Nov. 22, 1908, daughter of Stephen and Clementina Gazzaniga Rosasco, she graduated from Drury High School in 1925. She also completed courses at the former North Adams Normal School, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. She was employed in retail sales and bookkeeping for most of her career. She resided in New York City for many years and worked for Macy's Department Store. In her younger years, she worked at the former Pizzi's Dress Shop and the former M. Lurie & Co. Clothing Store, both in North Adams. Mrs. Sheehan was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a member of its Rosary Society. She was an active member of the North Adams Garden Club, the North Adams Emblem Club, and the Women's Association of the North Adams Country Club. Her husband, William Edmund Sheehan, whom she married June 3, 1935, in St. Anthony's Church, died July 10, 1986. She leaves two daughters, Mary Claire May of Queensbury, N.Y., and Judith Tully of Chester, N.J.; a sister, Dorothy Rosasco Piaggi of Holyoke; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A sister, Norma Rosasco Gallese, died Aug. 7, 2001. The funeral will be Thursday, April 18, at 9:30 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 at St. Francis of Assisi Church by the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Burial in Southview Cemetery. Memorial donations suggested for St. Jude's Children's Hospital through the funeral home. Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 17, from 4 to 8 at the funeral home.
