Stanley Ostrobinski, 87

ADAMS, Mass. — Stanley John Ostrobinski, 87, of 72 East Hoosac St. died Tuesday morning, May 14, 2002, at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Adams on Oct. 12, 1914, son of John and Anna Walach Ostrobinski, he attended Adams schools. An Army veteran of World War II, he as a medic with the 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion in the European theater. On March 23, 1943, he tended to more than a dozen wounded soldiers while under heavy tank and aircraft bombardment on the battlefield in Tunisia, North Africa. He received a bronze star medal and was honorably discharged as a technician, third grade, in 1945. Mr. Ostrobinski was employed as a carpenter and had worked on many area home-building projects and, more recently, as a custodian for more than 15 years at C.H. McCann Technical School in North Adams. He retired 20 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and flower gardening. He and his wife, the former Mary Wanda Alibozek, were married June 1, 1946. He leaves two sons, Thomas Ostrobinski of Adams and George Ostrobinski of Savoy; three daughters, Patricia Baugh of Adams, Nancy Kuzia of North Adams and Paula Hilchey of Cheshire; a brother, Theodore Ostrobinski of Adams; two sisters, Mary Gancarz of Adams and Helen Chouinard of Williamstown; 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Walter and Daniel Ostrobinski, and three sisters, Jennie Morandi, Adela Poplaski and Helen Ostrobinski. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral will be held on Friday morning at 9:15 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, celebrated by the Rev. John C. Chwalek, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Stanislaus' School through the funeral home.
