J. Richard "Dick" Tonini

Mr. J. Richard “Dick” Tonini, 94, former resident of West Stockbridge died on January 14, 2002 at his home in Holden, Maine. Born in West Cornwall, CT. on Feb. 1O, 1907, he was the son of John and Mary Rosier Tonini. He attended and graduated in 1923 from local schools in West Stockbridge. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was volunteer scout leader with the Boy Scouts of America for more than fifty years in Massachusetts and Maine. He was a camp ranger for sixteen years at the Katahdin Scout Reservation in Eddington and was a former member of the executive board of the Katahdin Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. He was also a member of the Wisdom Lodge, AF & AM in West Stockbridge for more than fifty years. His wife of more than 70 years, the former Mabel G. Rushbrook of Richmond, whom he married on December 6, 1930 in Nassau, NY, predeceased him last year on July 22nd. Surviving him are his three sons; Leon R. Tonini and his wife, Helen of San Francisco, CA, Earl F. Tonini of Bangor, ME, and David R. Tonini and his wife Rosemary of Holden, ME., four grandchildren: John R. Tonini II, Richard Tonini, Dianne Avery & Mary Pomeroy. Five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers. A gravside committal service at the West Stockbridge Village Cemetery will be held on Saturday, May 18th at eleven a.m. with the Rev. Esther Chappuis, pastor of the West Stockbridge Congregational Church, officiating.
