Delima R. Martin

Delima Rosemarie (Gelinas) Martin, 87, of 689 Church St., North Adams, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at the North Adams Regional Hospital after being stricken earlier at her home. Born on Nendon Mountain in Rutland, Vt., on Feb. 2, 1915, she was the daughter of Arthur and Diana (Therrien) Gelinas. She moved with her family as a child to Holyoke and then to Berkshire County, where she attended schools in Clarksburg and North Adams, including the former Notre Dame Parochial School, North Adams. In her earlier years, she was employed as a waitress at Williams College, Williamstown. She then was employed at Sprague Electric, North Adams, for a short time. For most of her life, she was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. She was an active member of the Mary Spitzer Senior Center, North Adams. She also was a member of the Berkshire County Commission for the Blind. Her husband, Thomas Claude Martin, whom she married April 22, 1935, died Oct. 16, 1994. She leaves three daughters, Claire Gamari of Stamford, Vt., Sunda Baker of North Adams and Sheila Martin Starr of Brookline; three sons, Thomas A. Martin of Clarksburg, Gary S. Martin of North Adams and Col. of U.S. FEMA Glenn M. Martin of Chesapeake Bay, Va.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor Wiseman of the state of Florida; and a brother, Lewis Gelinas of New London, Conn. A sister, Alice LePage, and a brother, Rolland Gelinas, are deceased. Funeral services for Delima Martin will be Monday, May 20, 10 a.m., at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours are Sunday, May 19, 4-7 p.m., at the funeral home Flowers may be sent or donations may be made to the Commission for the Blind through the funeral home.
