Marjorie A. Oles

Marjorie Alice "Sis" Oles, 76, formerly of Locust Street, died Monday at the home of her daughter, Linda Welch of Pittsfield. Born in Great Barrington on April 21, 1926, daughter of Earl H. and Marjorie E. Betz Lindsey, she grew up in Ashley Falls and was salutatorian of the class of 1944 at the former Sheffield High School. She was employed by the former Great Barrington Savings Bank for 30 years and retired in 1988. Mrs. Oles was a member of the First Methodist Church in Great Barrington and the former Alford Grange. In her younger years, she enjoyed snowmobiling, boating and camping. After retirement, she enjoyed puzzles and helping her neighbors. Her husband, John R. Oles, whom she married June 2, 1946, in Alford, died Nov. 14, 2000. Besides her daughter, she leaves a sister, Ruth M. Lindsey of Las Vegas, and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 30, at 11 at the FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, Great Barrington, with the Rev. Richard Floyd, pastor of the First Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 29, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home.
