Percy Larabee Jr.

Percy Ernest Larabee Jr., 83, of 10 Miner St. died Tuesday at Sweet Brook Health Care Center in Williamstown, where he had been admitted May 23. Born in Buckland on Jan. 28, 1919, son of Percy Ernest Larabee Sr. and Lola Pettit Larabee, he moved with his family to Williamstown at age 5. He attended schools in Williamstown. In 1942, he enlisted in the Army, where he served with the 626th Tank Destroyer Battalion as a private first class and machine gunner. He was employed as a carpenter with several construction companies throughout Berkshire County, southern Vermont and New York state. Mr. Larabee was a longtime member of Carpenters Union Local 108, where he served as treasurer. He was a member of the Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion in North Adams and the Richard A. Ruether American Legion Post 152 in Williamstown. He enjoyed boating and fishing. His wife, the former Eleanor Jean Scully, whom he married April 21, 1944, died Nov. 6, 1993. He leaves two daughters, Margaret A. Larabee and Gail M. Larabee, both of Glastonbury, Conn.; a son, Frederick Larabee of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister, Ruth Angel of San Diego, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A brother, Frederick Larabee, died while serving during World War II. Family and friends will gather at the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, on Friday at 11:45, followed by funeral services at the Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapel, Williamstown at 1 with the Rev. Wayne Earl, interim pastor of the First Baptist Church of Williamstown, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. There are no calling hours. Flowers may be sent or memorial donations are suggested for Sweet Brook Health Care Center through the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
