Debora Johnston

Debora A. D'Agostino Johnston, 85, of 199 Great Barrington Road died Saturday at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington. Born in New York City on March 24, 1917, daughter of Vincent and Amalia Braga D'Agostino, she attended schools there and graduated from the Pratt Institute. She moved to West Stockbridge in 1982. During World War II, she was an officer in the Women's Army Corps and was assigned as an interpreter with the 12th Air Force. Mrs. Johnston was employed as an interior decorator and secretary. She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Church. She served as a volunteer at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington for many years. She enjoyed art and became an accomplished artist in her later years. Her husband, Air Force Maj. William M. Johnston, died in 1981. She leaves nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five sisters, Felomena, Dora, Amy, Edith and Nance; three brothers, Jim, Arthur and Bob, and a nephew, Arthur Mize. A memorial service will be in Our Lady of the Valley Church at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Mill River Center Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in Debora's memory may be made to Our Lady of the Valley Church or to SBVAS in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, which is in charge of arrangements.
