Gerard M. Kimball

Gerard M. Kimball, 79, of 611 State Road, Holy Family Terrace, a longtime resident of Williamstown, died Monday at home. Born in Castleton, Vt., on March 11, 1923, son of Charles Lyman Kimball and Helen Kathryn Moriarity Kimball, he attended schools there. He moved to the Berkshires in the 1950s. He enlisted in the Army on April 20, 1943, during World War II, and served with the 286th Station Hospital as a dental technician, earning several medals and ribbons. He was discharged in 1946 with the rank of technician fifth class. Mr. Kimball was employed by General Cable Co. as a millwright. He became a licensed union electrician and then worked for the former Phair Electric Co. in Pittsfield. He retired in 1975 and moved to Marion Oaks, Fla. He moved to North Adams in 2001. While in Williamstown, he was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and a member of the Richard A. Ruether Post 152. He was a former commander of the Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 VFW and the Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion, both in North Adams. He was also a member of the Electrical Worker Lodge 284 and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 7 AFL-CIO, both in Pittsfield. While in Marion Oaks, he was a member of the Marion Oaks American Legion. His wife, the former Virginia Bratcher, died June 16, 1987. He leaves a son, Mark Kimball of Clarksburg; a daughter, Sandi Isherwood of Vergennes, Vt.; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves his longtime companion, Margaret Hagen of Mount Kisco, N.Y. He was predeceased by three brothers, John Kimball, Robert Kimball and Michael Kimball. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Gerard M. Kimball will take place Friday at 10:30 at the Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapels in Williamstown with the Rev. Peter T. Elvin, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church of Williamstown officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Good Shepard Memorial Gardens in Ocala, Fla. There are no calling hours.
