Pauline M. Stevens

Pauline M. Stevens, 85, of Norfolk Road, Southfield, died Sunday at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canaan, Conn., where she had been a resident since September 2001. Born in East Boston on Sept. 10, 1916, daughter of James and Caroline Yeomans Murphy, she attended schools there. She was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mrs. Stevens was employed by the New Marlboro Central School as a secretary until her retirement in 1979. Before her marriage in 1947, she worked for the Securities and Exchange Commission. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Mill River and an accomplished seamstress. Her husband, Alfred G. Stevens, whom she married June 28, 1947, died June 22, 1996. She leaves three daughters, Carole Fechteler of Canaan, Conn., Dorothy Charbonneau of Waterford, Conn., and Lorraine Donley of Hinesburg, Vt.; a son, David Stevens of Acton; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Another son, James R. Stevens, died in 1997. She was predeced by two sisters and three brothers. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 21, at 11 at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield by the Rev. John Lis. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Cemetery, Southfield. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 20, from 5 to 7 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, Great Barrington. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Marlboro First Responders or to Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center to benefit the Dementia Unit through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
