Cynthia Ann New McHugh, 61, of 12 Highland Drive died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. Born in Great Barrington on Oct. 27, 1940, daughter of Edward F. New Sr. and Johanna Georgis New, she graduated from the former Searles High School in 1958. She was employed as a service representative for New England Telephone Co. She retired as a receptionist for Country Curtains in Lee in 1989. She was a communicant of St. Peter's Church and enjoyed gardening, photography and decorating. She also enjoyed caring for her grandchildren. She leaves her husband of 42 years, Edward McHugh, whom she married May 14, 1960, at St. Peter's Church; a son,Christopher McHugh of Lee; a daughter, Lori Ann McHugh of New Lebanon, N.Y.; a brother, Edward J. New Jr. of Stockbridge, and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Priscilla Ball, and a brother, Francis New. The funeral will be Friday, June 21, at St. Peter's Church, concelebrated by the Rev. Gary Chamberland and the Rev. Anthony Jutt at 11 a.m. Family will receive friends Friday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery.
