Jean M. Scarpa

Jean M. Scarpa, 71, of Christian Hill Road died yesterday morning at Fairview Commons. Born in Dalton on Sept. 28, 1930, daughter of Frederick and Frances McKenna Danforth, she attended local schools and was a 1948 graduate of the former Dalton High School. She also attended Westfield State College. She had resided in Marco Island, Fla., for 18 years before returning to the Berkshires in 1999. Mrs. Scarpa was employed by the former New England Telephone Co. as a service representative. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. Her husband, Ernest J. Scarpa, whom she married May 23, 1959, died March 21, 1976. She leaves four sons, Paul Scarpa, John Scarpa and Chris Scarpa, all of Lee, and Mark Scarpa of Marco Island; a daughter, Cara Mahoney of Naples, Fla.; two sisters, Barbara Shea of Lenox and Patricia Loughan of Dalton, and nine grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday, June 27, at 9:15 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mary's Church in Lee. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday, June 26, from 5 to 8.
