Philip D. Litano

Philip D. Litano Sr., 89, of 6 Orchard Ave. died Wednesday morning at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 28, 1912, son of Frank and Elvera Tramentozzi Litano, he attended Pittsfield High School and a carpenter's apprentice program. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a Seabee throughout the South Pacific. Mr. Litano founded and operated Philip D. Litano and Sons Builders and Contractors Co. until his retirement 20 years ago. Prior to that, he was employed by the former Campoli Contractors. He was a 50-year member and former trustee of Pittsfield Lodge of Elks 272, where he served as exalted ruler in 1960. A longtime member of the Rainbow Club, he enjoyed playing golf and was a New York Yankees fan. He leaves his longtime companion, Ellie Townsend; five sons, Frank Litano of Memphis, Tenn., Philip A. Litano, Anthony P. Litano and Charles P. Litano, all of Pittsfield, and Peter A. Litano of Lake Tahoe, Nev.; five daughters, Rosemary Bush, Elizabeth Pechelos, and Constance Tiffany, all of Pittsfield, Delores Litano of Boston and Phyllis A. Goddard of North Adams; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Calling hours at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be Sunday from 3 to 7. The funeral will be Monday at 9:15 at the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Pittsfield Elks Club Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
