Donald M. Ziegler

Donald M. Ziegler, 71, of 446 Boardman St. died Sunday at home. He was the owner of the Corn Crib. Born in Flushing, N.Y., on Aug. 12, 1930, son of Valentine and Nina Ketron Ziegler, he was a 1948 graduate of the former Williams High School in Stockbridge and attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He moved to the Berkshires in 1940 and worked on his family's farm in West Stockbridge. In 1960, he moved to Sheffield. Mr. Ziegler had owned the Corn Crib since 1970. A former 4-H leader, he was a member of the Farmers' Market in Pittsfield and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ashley Falls. He leaves his wife, Ruth Cathline, whom he married June 6, 1953, in Shrewsbury; three sons, Alan Ziegler and Vale Ziegler, both of Sheffield, and David Ziegler of Monterey; three daughters, Fawn Menard and June Ziegler, both of Sheffield, and Diane Beth Dzaugis of Sturbridge; a sister, Helen Hainsworth of Lenox, and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, July 14, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Route 7A, Ashley Falls, at 2 by the Rev. Betty LeGeyt. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at a later time in Sheffield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the Berkshire Children's Chorus, HospiceCare of the Berkshires, Hearts of the Father, or to UMCOR, all in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, which is in charge of arrangements. There will be a gathering of friends and family at the home of Alan and Meghan Ziegler, 1193 Home Road, Sheffield, following the memorial service.
