Robert L. Roach

Robert Lee Roach, 73, of 345 Eagle St. died yesterday at home. Born in North Adams on April 12, 1929, son of Miles and Beatrice Lee Roach, he attended Drury High School. He enlisted in the Navy on Nov. 20, 1946, and served as a boiler tender third class on the USS Everett F. Larson, the USS Hanson and the USS Yosemite in the European theater. He was awarded several medals. After his discharge in 1950, he returned to North Adams and was employed by Cornish Wire Co. in Williamstown. Later, he was a longtime driver for J.T. Bus Lines in North Adams. He was last employed by GE in Pittsfield, retiring in the early 1990s. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the North Adams Lodge of Elks, the Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion, the Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a life member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. His wife, the former Leone Frances Alderman, whom he married April 15, 1950, died Dec. 25, 1997. He leaves three daughters, Donna Jagiello of Dalton, and Cynthia Lore and Virginia Row-ett, both of North Adams; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Beverly Baker, died Nov. 22, 1999, and a son died in infancy, and a sister, Doris Lapine. The funeral for Robert Lee Roach will be Thursday, July 11, at 11 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, July 10, from 4 to 8. Memorial donations suggested for VNA & Hospice, the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home. Survivors include nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.
