Dorothy Mange

Dorothy M. Mange, 79, formerly of Beartown Mountain Road in South Lee, died Monday evening at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 27, 1922, daughter of Theodore and Dorothy Manchester Lockenwitz, she spent the majority of her life living on Beartown Mountain and attended local schools. Mrs. Mange worked as a cook at the former Valley View Nursing Home and the former Edgecomb Nursing Home, both in Lenox, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd and enjoyed ceramics and oil painting. Her husband, Alfred E. Mange Jr., whom she married Aug. 29, 1940, died in March 1984. She leaves four sons, Dennis A. Mange of Cleveland, Texas, Jerry E. Mange of Ludlow, William D. Mange of Sanbornville, N.H., and Timothy L. Mange of Cheshire; a daughter, Judy A. Williams of South Lee; a brother, Robert Lockenwitz of Lee; four sisters, Virginia Bridges of Long Beach, Calif., Lois Brogan of Stockbridge, Beverly Funk of Greensburg, Pa., and Carol Scapin of Great Barrington; 20 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. A son, Alfred Mange III, died Nov. 24, 1999. Funeral services for Dorothy M. Mange, formerly of the Beartown Mountain area in South Lee, will be held Thursday morning at 8:15 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with a service at 9 at the Church of the Good Shepherd in South Lee. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery in Lee. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends wishing may make donations to Hospice Care in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee 01238.
