Lillian Asselin

Lillian Mayo Asselin, 88, of 56 Glendale Road died Monday at Fairview Commons. Born in Chicopee on Jan. 12, 1914, she was the daughter of Adolph and Melissa Ungerer Mayo. She graduate from Chicopee High School in 1929 and the Fanny Allen Hospital School of Nursing in Winooski, Vt. Mrs. Asselin was a nurse for 28 years in Scarsdale, N.Y., before moving to Housatonic in 1960, where she became a private-duty nurse and secretary to the late Margaret French Cresson, daughter of sculptor Daniel Chester French. She retired from Chesterwood in 1982. A communicant of Corpus Christi Church, she enjoyed cooking and was a supporter of the Indian reservations and wildlife causes. She leaves her husband of 64 years, Wilfred "Pete" Asselin, whom she married June 18, 1938. She was predeceased by a sister, Vivian Ryan. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 11, at 9 a.m. at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, to be followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial in Corpus Christi Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at a later time in St. Bridget's Cemetery. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the Corpus Christi Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
