Richard A. Peppe

Dr. Richard A. Peppe, 75, of Northampton, formerly of Great Barrington, died yesterday at the Northampton Veterans Hospital after a long bout with cancer. Born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on April 27, 1927, son of Archangelo and Esterina Proia Peppe, he graduated from Pine Plains (N.Y.) Central School in 1944. He attended Cortland (N.Y.) State Teachers College until being drafted into the Army during World War II. He served during the occupation of Germany from 1945 to 1957. Dr. Peppe graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis in 1950. He practiced optometry in Great Barrington in the 1950s, and was a member of the Great Barrington Lions Club, Massachusetts Optometry Society and Berkshire County Optometry Society. He leaves a daughter, Karin Peppe; a stepson, Richard Peppe, and three sisters, Estherine Peppe Terni of Suffield, Conn., Mary Peppe of New Jersey and Evelina Peppe Lyle of Lakeville, Conn. Dr. Peppe was predeceased by brothers Louis, Anthony, and Dr. Vincent Peppe, and sisters Rosary Addessi and Nannette Glorioso. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 13, at 11 a.m., at the Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the Southern College of Optometry Building Fund, 1245 Madison Ave., Memphis, TN 38104-2222.
