Mary Ann Boeglin

Mary Ann Boeglin, 88, of Fairview Street died yesterday at home. Born in Boston on Sept. 15, 1913, daughter of John and Katherine Samalonas Barones, she attended schools in Pittsfield. She had resided in Nutley and Montclair, N.J., for 54 years before moving to Lee in 1983. Mrs. Boeglin and her husband, Julius J. Boeglin, owned and operated Inter City Motor Transportation Co. Inc. in Carlstadt, N.J., for many years. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of the Massachusetts Human Rights Committee from 1988 to 2001. She received the Human Rights Person of the Year Award in 1995 from then-Gov. William F. Weld for her work on behalf of children with Down syndrome. Her husband, whom she married June 8, 1931, died May 10, 1981. She leaves a son, Julius J. Boeglin Jr. of Elbridge, N.Y.; a daughter, Joan Kasley of Warrenton, Va.; a sister, Viola Read of Lenox Dale; 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two daughters, Mary Ann O'Connor, who died Sept. 3, 1980, and Barbara Ruth Boeglin, who died April 19, 2001. She was also predeceased by a sister, Ann Kelly of Dalton. The funeral will be Monday, July 15, at 9:15 from ROCHE FUNERAL HOME in Lenox, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mary's Church in Lee. Burial will be Wednesday, July 16, at 11 at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Upper Montclair, N.J. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of the funeral.
