Ruth E. Vergunst

Ruth E. Vergunst, 78, of 39 Chesbro Ave. died Wednesday at North Adams Commons. Born in Charleston, S.C., on Dec. 16, 1923, daughter of Ralph and Beatrice Millar, she graduated from schools in South Carolina. She came to North Adams as a young woman. Mrs. Vergunst was first employed with the area cotton mills. She later worked at the North Adams Day Care Center at the former Haskins School, and provided day care in her home. She enjoyed playing bingo. She and her husband, Peter Vergunst, were married in 1955. Besides her husband, she leaves three daughters, Grace "Teddy" Ferris of Portland, Ore., Sandra L. Crews of North Adams and Nancy J. Majors of Milwaukee, Ore.; two sons, Peter L. Vergunst and William L. Vergunst, both of North Adams; a sister, Mildred Shartrand of North Adams; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A brother, Ralph Millar, is deceased. Funeral services will take place at a later date. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Southview Cemetery in North Adams. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements.
