John J. Cascio Jr.

John J. Cascio Jr., 68, of Jacob's Ladder Road died Sunday at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield. He was owner and operator of the Gas Light Motor Lodge and a former selectman and planner. Born in Bridgeport, Conn., on March 28, 1934, son of John J. Cascio Sr. and Angelina Bonazzo Cascio, he attended schools there and was a 1952 graduate of Central High School. He received an associate's degree in industrial design from the University of Bridgeport in 1954. Mr. Cascio and his wife, the former Barbara Squezello, moved to Becket in 1985 and purchased the motor lodge on Greenwater Pond. Prior to that, he was owner and operator of J&P Machine Tool Co. and Cascio Fuel in Connecticut. He also had been employed as a tool maker for 15 years by Remington Arms Inc. in Bridgeport. He also was a former chairman of the Planning Board, and a member of the Town Hall Building Committee and the Variance Board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Besides his wife of 45 years, he leaves a son, Paul J. Cascio of Stratford, Conn.; a daughter, Nancy C. Brelsford of Becket, and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by another grandson, John Brelsford, in 1992. The funeral will be Wednesday morning at 9 at First Congregational Church of Becket. Burial will follow in the Becket Center Cemetery. Visiting hours will be today, Tuesday, from 5 to 9 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee.
