Jerry D. Lewis

Jerry D. Lewis, 56, of 80 Greylock Estates Road died Monday of cancer at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Battle Creek, Mich., on March 28, 1946, son of Paulford R. and Margaret L. Grable Lewis, he graduated from schools there. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1969 and a master's degree in 1971 in geology from Michigan State University. He moved to Lanesboro 3 1/2 years ago. Previously, he had lived in Apple Valley, Calif., for 4 1/2 years. An employee of Specialty Minerals since 1993, he worked in Lucerne Valley, Calif., and for the past 3 1/2 years he was an environmental manager in Adams. Previously, he had worked as a private consultant in Oregon. For many years, he had also worked in the Mineral Resources Department at Boise Cascade Corp. in Boise, Idaho. He was a member of the Association of Facilities Engineers and collected mineral specimens. An avid stamp collector, he was a member of the Berkshire Stamp Club. He enjoyed gardening, hiking and backpacking. He also enjoyed traveling and had been to all 50 states. He leaves his wife, the former Linda S. Persons, whom he married Aug. 29, 1987 in Reno, Nev. Besides his wife, he also leaves a son, Geoffrey M. Lewis of Lanesboro; a daughter, Renee C. Lewis of Portland, Ore.; a stepson, Patrick R. McMahon of Augusta, Ga., and a step-granddaughter. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 19, at 2 at DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. Dr. Peter D. Boehringer, pastor of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Lewis may be made to the Memorial Sloan-Kittering Cancer Center in care of the Dery-Cheshire Funeral Home, 121 North State Road, Cheshire, MA 01225.
