Dorothy Marquette

Dorothy P. "Dot" Marquette, 91, of 22 Tuck Road, Hampton, N.H., a native of Adams, died Tuesday at the Seacoast Health Center. She moved in the late 1970s from Pittsfield to Portsmouth, where she resided for three years before moving to Dearborn House in Hampton. Born in Adams on Nov. 14, 1920, daughter of Leander J. and Ellen Kearns Wellspeak, she graduated from Commercial High School in Pittsfield. In her younger years, she worked as a secretary for Berkshire Life Insurance Co. for several years. After raising her daughter, she worked as a bookkeeper for Berkshire Community College. While in Pittsfield, Mrs. Marquette was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Hampton. She was an avid supporter of RSVP, volunteering more than 20,000 hours of service. She was an assistant Girl Scout leader and a former member of the Pittsfield Grange. An accomplished seamstress, she received many ribbons in competition at fairs for her crocheting and needlework. She also enjoyed performing in minstrel shows in Pittsfield, usually playing an endman. Her husband, Harold E. Marquette, whom she married in 1934, died in 1970. She leaves her daughter, Nan M. Fahey of Epping, N.H.; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Friday at 10:30. Relatives and friends are invited. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 High St., Hampton, NH 03842. Burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery at a later date. Assistance with arrangements was the REMICK & GENDRON FUNERAL HOME-CREMATORY.
