Sr. Mary Cartier

Sister Mary Pauline Cartier, 92, of the Sisters of the Visitation Monastery died Saturday at the monastery in Tyringham. Born Louise Cartier in Kusnacht-Zurich, Switzerland, on July 19, 1910, daughter of Theodore and Jonanna Stutz Cartier, she came to the United States with the delegation that staffed Switzerland's pavilion in the 1938 World's Fair. The outbreak of World War II prevented her return to Switzerland. Sister Cartier entered the Monastery of the Visitation in Wilmington, Del., in 1947 and made her vows on June 7, 1949. She celebrated 50 years of religious life in 1999. She had spent some of her later years in the infirmary in Towson, Md. In 2000, she returned to her Visitation community, which had relocated to Tyringham from Delaware. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 at the Monastery by the Rev. Gary M. Dailey, pastor of St. Mary's Church in Lee. Burial will follow in the Monastery Cemetery. Visitation at the Monastery will be Wednesday from 8:20 until 9:45 a.m. KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee is in charge of arrangements.
