Henrietta Elder

Henrietta "Etta" Elder, 91, of 218 Franklin St. died Tuesday at home. Born in Adams on June 26, 1911, daughter of Robert and Mary Fischer Joppich, she attended Adams schools, including the former Adams High School. Primarily a homemaker, she was employed by GE in Pittsfield and the former Berkshire Fine Associates in her younger years and later assisted in the family business, McClelland Press of Williamstown. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of North Adams for more than 50 years and was a life member of The Wesley Circle, which honored her as Woman of the Year. Her husband, George L. Elder, died Jan. 3, 1986. She leaves three sons, Thomas G. Elder and John R. Elder, both of Williamstown, and William E. Elder of North Adams; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and her cousin and longtime companion, Dorothy Leary of Adams. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Joppich, who died in 1985. Funeral services will take place Friday morning at 9 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a service to celebrate her life at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of North Adams, with the Rev. Susan Stewart, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, are Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested for the Elder Family Memorial Fund at the First United Methodist Church in North Adams or to Elder Services.
