Paul J. Gazaw

Paul Joseph Gazaw, 83, of 121 West Housatonic St. died Sunday evening at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on March 29, 1919, son of Joseph and Blanche Conley Gazaw, he attended schools in Lenox and Dalton. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he served overseas. He was employed as a millwright at Crane & Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1981 as head millwright. Mr. Gazaw was a member of Dalton United Methodist Church, where he served as head usher for many years, and of the Dalton VFW. He enjoyed flying and had a pilot's license for more than 50 years. He also had built two of his own planes and did lawnmower repairs at his home. His wife, the former Helena B. Brinkman, whom he married Dec. 28, 1940, died June 14, 1997. He leaves a son, Glenn G. Gazaw of Pittsfield; a daughter, Marita E. Morse of Dalton; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Another son, William Paul Gazaw, died in 1975, and another daughter, Linda Gazaw Brown, died in 1984. The funeral will be conducted Thursday, Aug. 1, at 11 at Dalton United Methodist Church by the Rev. Hyung-gyum "Philip" Kim, pastor. Burial will follow in Main Street Cemetery, Dalton. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dalton United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
