José Garcia

José Garcia, 95, of 162 Bull Hill Road died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Canseco, providence of Leon, Spain, on May 1, 1907, son of Pascual and Fermina Fernandez Garcia, he attended schools there. He emigrated to New York City in 1929 and moved to Lanesboro in 1941. A carpenter, he was a member of Carpenters' Union Local 108, where he had a gold membership. From 1941 to 1943, he worked at Camp Wahconah-Potomac and at the Pontoosuc Lodge from 1943 to 1949. He retired in 1971. Mr. Garcia was a communicant of North American Martyrs Church and a volunteer there. He enjoyed hunting and was a mushroomer, gardener and butcher. He leaves his wife, the former Peregrina Rodino, whom he married Feb. 5, 1939, in the Bronx, N.Y. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Joseph Garcia Jr. of Hancock, N.H., and John Garcia of Windsor; a brother, Domingo Garcia of New York City; a sister, Letecia Garcia of Asturias, Spain; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 5, at 10:15 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 in St. Charles' Church. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum. Calling hours will be Sunday, Aug. 4, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the funeral home. If friends desire, donations may be made to the José Garcia Scholarship Fund for Lanesboro Elementary School children, where Mr. Garcia's son has been a longtime teacher, in care of the funeral home.
