Arthur A. Rock Jr.

Arthur Albert Rock Jr., 72, formerly of 892 South Church St. died Tuesday at Sweet Brook Care Center in Williamstown, where he had resided since March 2000. Born in North Adams on Nov. 24, 1929, son of Arthur Albert Rock Sr. and Mabel Irene Dodds Rock, he was a 1948 graduate of Drury High School. He also attended the former North Adams State College for a short time. An Army veteran, he served in Germany from 1950 to 1952 as a private, first class with the 32nd Artillery Battalion, 9th Armored Division's headquarters. Mr. Rock was a custodian with Frank R. Stiles American Legion Post 125 and later at Drury High School. He retired in 1994. He was first employed as a taxi driver and, after his military service, he worked in the purchasing department of the former Sprague Electric Co. He also owned and operated Carol's Restaurant, the former Dondi's, from 1967 until it closed in 1970. Mr. Rock was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and a former member of American Legion Post 125. He leaves a sister, Dorothy Rock Condiff of Wilmington, Del. He was predeceased by a sister, June Agnes Rock on Dec. 5, 1995, and brothers, Donald Francis Rock on May 26, 1987, and Robert Raymond Rock on Feb. 8, 1961. The funeral will be Monday, Aug. 12, at 12:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 11:15 until the time of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to any charity through the funeral home, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
