Edward J. Bishop

Edward J. Bishop, 77, of Bourg, La., a native of Hinsdale, died July 31. Born on Feb. 13, 1925, son of Thomas and Clara Briggs Bishop, he attended local schools. An Army veteran of World War II, he participated in the Battle of the Bulge with the 82nd Airborne Division and received the Purple Heart. He was a retired offshore superintendent for mission drilling. He was a member of the VFW Post 9566 in Dalton. He enjoyed playing bingo and cards, and visiting family and friends in the Berkshires. His wife, the former Doris Trosclair, is deceased. He leaves a daughter, Susan Porche of Bourg; a brother, Joseph Bishop of Pittsfield; three sisters, Judith Pelkey of Washington, Ruth Drosehn of Dalton and Elizabeth Goyette of Westfield; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Bishop was predeceased by four brothers, Thomas, Richard, Robert and Donald Bishop. A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church in Dalton on Saturday, Aug. 31, at 11. Immediately following the service, there will be a receiving of family and friends at the VFW in Dalton until 2 p.m.
