Peter Borie

Peter Borie, 88, of Yale Hill, Stockbridge, and Philadelphia, died Saturday at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. Born in Philadelphia on Sept. 12, 1913, son of Adolphe and Edith Pettit Borie, he attended Episcopal Academy in Philadelphia and graduated from St. Paul's School, Yale University and Columbia Law School. Mr. Borie served as a lieutenant commander in the Navy during World War II. After practicing law as a partner with the New York firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore, he joined the legal department of Pepsi Cola Co. in 1951 and was named a vice president, retiring in 1971. Mr. Borie served on the board of trustees of the Nightingale-Bamford School and on the board of Interfaith Neighbors in New York City. Locally, he served on the board of trustees of Hancock Shaker Village in Pittsfield. In 1990, he and his second wife, the former Mary S. Lakin, moved back to Philadelphia from New York City. They were married for 36 years. She died in 1994. , He leaves a daughter, Edith Borie of Germany; three stepdaughters, Valerie Takai of New York City, Molly Hoffman Mazzone of Rome and Helen Davies of Philadelphia, and two grandchildren. A memorial service for Peter Borie will be held in Philadelphia today at 4 at St. Peter's Church, Third and Pine streets. Memorial donations may be made to the Stockbridge Land Trust, P.O. Box 1063, Stockbridge, MA 01262.
