Alfred A. Cermenaro, 81

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Alfred Anthony Cermenaro, 81, of 56 Olds St. died Thursday morning, Aug. 29, 2002, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown. He was a local businessman and longtime member of the McCann Technical School Committee. Born in North Adams on June 14, 1921, son of Anthony and Angela Bruno Cermenaro, he was raised by his father and stepmother, Loreno Devio Cermenaro, and attended North Adams schools. He left school to help run the family business, the Braytonville Garage, and received his high school diploma in 1969. An Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, he served from Sept. 8, 1942, until his honorable discharge as a sergeant on Jan. 18, 1946. Mr. Cermenaro operated the garage with his father and brother, Dominick Cermenaro, until his father's retirement, when he and his brother took over. He retired in 1982. He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. He enjoyed golf and was a member of the North Adams Country Club and the Stamford (Vt.) Valley Golf Club. His wife, the former Mary Teresa Fiori, whom he married Nov. 1, 1947, died May 2, 1999. Besides his brother, of Winter Haven, Fla., he leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and James Kenney of Cheshire; a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Rose Marie Cermenaro of Merrimack, N.H., and two grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Cermenaro and Justin Anthony Cermenaro, both of Merrimack. FUNERAL NOTICE — A Memorial Mass for Mr. Cermenaro will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 31, at 1 at St. Anthony of Padua Church by the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor. Burial will take place at a later date. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements.
